With families which have ill children we need to view the situation through the whole family as their energies are intertwined. If one person, let's say the healthy parent, can't cope with the disease challenge, he/she drags other members into negative moods. So when one person disempowers the child, the whole family starts sinking. Therefore our idea is to deal with the whole family, that is individually, so that we find out what makes a family happy. According to this we include the family in a certain programme (painting, dancing, feeling, karaoke singing ...) Not everything works for everyone, so we always adjust individually.
The next step is to connect the families which feel happy by sharing the same values, goals and programmes. So a mother, who has the same problems as another mother, finds it easier to share and talk about her challenges with someone who understands her and goes through the same things. A father, on the other hand, also finds it easier to show his sadness and inability to do anything useful, and shares his pain more openly with a father of another ill child.
When, finally, all family members accept the fact that a disease can be a part of their living, they find their inner strength to keep the quality of life and then a disease becomes an integral part of life which they simply accept. So everyone starts to be aware of their disease and strength gained through this challenge. Those of you who got seriously ill, keep encouraging each other, share your hope and faith that you can make it through. And all of us, who are still healthy, can express our gratitude for health by compassionately and responsibly creating a better tomorrow for these people. Our goal is to be understanding and loving. People from our institute who surround the diseased are using their presence in their attempt to improve the wellbeing of individuals and their families.
